I first decided to try the Ordinary skincare products when I was scrolling through the Douglas online shop. I’m not gonna lie. What tempted me to purchase a bunch of products from The Ordinary was the price which was so much lower than all other beauty products sold by Douglas. So, I ended up buying the following three products, each targeting a specific skincare need:
- Hyaluronic acid 2% + B5
- Salicylic Acid 2% Masque
- Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA
All three of the above were quite easy to apply and did not do any harm to my skin, however they did not do anything spectacular either.
Hyaluronic acid 2% + B5
The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 comes in a little glass dropper bottle that feels as if you are applying some medical remedy and not a skincare cosmetic product. It is very easy to use and its small size is great for travelling. Though, using the product did not bring me much joy which is fair enough, given the price.
The Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 from The Ordinary does one thing really well and it is to hydrate the skin, or more accurately said, to keep the moisture within the skin!
I have been using this for a couple of months now and I can say that my face has not had a single dry patch even during the coldest winter days! I usually apply it before I go to bed and I love the “wet cover” effect on my skin when I wake up in the morning. Really effective! The instructions on The Ordinary website say that the use of the Hyaluronic Acid product requires regular use of sunscreen during the day and I have tried to abide by this rule. The same goes for the retinoids and several other products from The Ordinary. Also, the use of the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 needs to be followed by applying a moisturizer. For this step I use the Natural Moisturizing Factors from The Ordinary which I have reviewed below.
All in all, I am happy with the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 as it does what it claims to do (nothing less, and, sadly, nothing more).
Salicylic Acid 2% Masque
The Salicylic Acid 2% Masque is recommended for fixing blemishes and imperfections. It is to be used no more than twice a week and should be applied for no more than 10 minutes. The masque is really easy to apply and remove. It did not cause any irritations to my skin (apart from slight peeling which lasted only for an hour).
Since I don’t have problematic skin, I can’t really tell whether the masque has any long term effects. For me it works well on the occasional pimple which is usually gone by the next day. The masque also leaves the skin soft and bright which I really love! Always moisturize after using the Salicylic Acid Masque and never combine with retinoids as both cause a little skin peeling.
Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA
The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors is a really great and effective moisturizer. It hydrates quite well without leaving a greasy film on my skin, meaning that it can be used under makeup. What I love about this product is that it is universal. You can use it in the morning/evening and you can also apply it on your eye area.
The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors come in a plastic squeeze tube that is not very comfortable for use. When you have already used half of the product it gets really hard to squeeze out the remaining product. One tube lasts for a month, so it is worth to consider the amount vs. price.
Although I don’t have any specific complaints about the three skincare products from The Ordinary, I would think twice before re-purchasing. Each of the products contains very few ingredients and serves a tightly specific purpose. This means that if you are after a general improvement, more radiance and freshness for your face, you will need to buy a large number of separate products and apply them one after the other every morning/night. I would personally prefer a single product or two at a higher price if this means that I will be able to see visible results to the overall condition of my skin without having to use 6-7 jars and bottles every single day. Maybe I am just a spoiled consumer demanding easy wonders?
Have you used any products from The Ordinary? Did you see any serious long term results?
